Bold and Italic is a locally-owned boutique social media, marketing and public relations unagency*, based in the small town of Truro, Nova Scotia. We've been helping businesses navigate their way through the ever-changing maze of online marketing since 2013. We work together with a diverse roster of clients, from local retail to regional festivals, to promote businesses and events, build relationships and, ultimately, grow awareness and sales for those clients.

*Yes, we totally made that word up. We're not an agency; we provide personal service and don't use confusing marketing words (unless we absolutely have to ... and then we'll explain them to you!), we work with you to customize a plan that fits your business. Oh, and we're only me ... Michelle McCann. I do talk to myself quite a bit, but not enough to pretend I'm more than one person!

Michelle sent her first tweet on April 7, 2008, and while it was hardly prolific (“eating an orange lunch … tomato soup, goldfish crackers and carrots.”), it sparked a keen interest in and relationship with social media.

With a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English from St. Francis Xavier University and a Diploma in Public Relations from the Nova Scotia Community College,  Michelle spent the first few years of her career as a communications professional, followed by more than 10 years working in fund development and event management in the non-profit sector. 

After moving back to her hometown of Truro, she found herself increasingly wanting to try something new. And so, in January 2013, she took the leap into self-employment and Bold and Italic was born!

Since then, Michelle has helped her clients navigate their way through the ever-changing maze of online marketing. From local retail to regional events, she is a hands-on content and community manager who uses social media to promote businesses, build relationships and, ultimately, grow awareness and sales for her clients. 

Michelle is also a co-founder of Local Love Truro, and is constantly inspired by the vibrancy, ingenuity and creativity of other local business people, and her hometown's growing community pride and spirit.

​Roxy became an integral part of the Bold and Italic team in August 2018. She joined us via Coastal K9 Rescue Society, where we discovered her through an irresistible Facebook post ... proving that social media does, in fact, work!

She was easily wooed with snacks and the promise of many blankets an ear rubs, and brought with her 6 years of extensive snuggle experience. She counts among her strengths those amazing ears for listening to new ideas and an insatiable appetite ... for treats.

While she prefers napping to brain-storming, Roxy is always up for a walking meeting at the duck pond or around the block.

​And she takes her role of making sure Michelle puts down her phone once in a while very seriously, and occasionally pops up on Zoom calls with clients to say hello.
